John N. “Jack” Bierman, 73, of 18454 Grange Center Rd., Saegertown, died Thursday, February 19, 2004 at the Meadville Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Elgin, Illinois August 6, 1930 a son of the late Walter and Frances Siverling Bierman. He married Pearl Smith November 24, 1977 and she survives.
He attended Park School and Center School and graduated from Conneaut Lake High School in 1949. In his youth he worked for his father, who owned the “Ice House” in Conneaut Lake Park. He delivered ice door to door. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps January 17 1951 and served as a tank crewman in Korea during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with 3 stars, the United Nations Medal, and the National Defense Medal. He received his honorable discharge January 16, 1954. After working for the Bessemer Railroad for ten years, he became self-employed as an excavator in the Saegertown area for many years. After his retirement, he worked part-time at the Conneautville Keystone Station.
He enjoyed bowling, golfing and shuffleboard and was a member of numerous local leagues and also sponsored teams for many years. He was a member of the Aurel Bachiak Marine Corps League, Eagles Aerie #429 and Huidekoper VFW Post 2006.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 27 years, include: three daughters, Linda K. Bierman and Lori L. Bierman both of Saegertown and Lacy M. Bierman and her husband Steven Casbohm of Meadville and four grandsons, Dalton P. Bierman, Dustin M. Bierman, Dakota R. Howles and Kyle R. Bierman.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter Bierman, Jr. and Glen Bierman and one sister, Edith Bierman Schafer.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
The funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Phillip Thomas Pastor of Bible Baptist Church and Rev. David Brumagin, Meadville Medical Center Chaplain, co-officiating.
Burial with military honors by Aurel Bachiak Marine Corps League will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
