Aileen Dain Prodan

Aileen Dain Prodan, 86, a long-time resident of Meadville and most recently of Hillside Home, Meadville, died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at Meadville Medical Center.

She was born and raised in Meadville March 29, 1918, a daughter of the late Burton W. and Elma Maloney Dain.  She married Peter F. Prodan June 23, 1948 and he preceded her in death October 14, 1975.

She was a 1935 graduate of Meadville High School and a 1939 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Allegheny College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics.  She took graduate classes at the University of Chicago and University of Wisconsin in Psychology and Education.  She worked at Allegheny College from 1939 to 1948 in various positions including Registrar.  In 1965 she returned to work at Allegheny in the library.  In 1983 she retired from full-time work as head of the circulation department, but she continued to work part-time there until 1986.  She formerly volunteered at the library at Meadville Medical Center and she was a former member of the auxiliary.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and its Presbyterian Women’s Circle and was a former Elder and the first woman Deacon.

She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed family reunions, traveling, and watching sporting events especially the Cleveland Indians.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Wendy Hegy and her husband William of Olympia, WA and Pamela Prodan and her partner Conrad Heeschen of Wilton, ME; a son, Peter F. Prodan and his wife Kathy Kerr Prodan of Raleigh, NC; 3 grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew and Allison Prodan; 2 brothers, Richard N. Dain and his wife Greta of Lake Wales, FL and Paul R. Dain and his wife Janet of Lakeland, FL; and many cousins, nieces, a nephew, great-nieces, and great-nephews.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Dain and his wife Winifred.

Following burial at Greendale Cemetery, a memorial service will be Monday at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., Meadville with the Rev. Dr. Brian Jensen, Pastor, officiating.
