Alice Lamerne Wardian

Alice LaMerne (Bunce) Wardian, 81, died peacefully on June 6, 2006 after a long battle with cancer.  Born in 1924 in Dicksonburg, PA, to Winter and Marian (Shaw) Bunce, she graduated from Conneautville High School in 1942 and entered Meadville Commercial College, graduating with a business certificate in 1944.  She then went to Washington, D.C. as a secretary for the Department of the Navy.  Returning to Meadville in 1945, she was employed by Talon, Inc. and also by the State of Pennsylvania Field Accounting Office.

She married Robert R. Wardian of Meadville in 1946, and had two children, Douglas and Karen, born in 1953 and 1956, respectively.  The family moved to California in 1966.

She and her husband enjoyed ballroom dancing, earning a bronze medal in international style waltz.  They also enjoyed many social activities, including travel throughout the United States.  After retiring at age 62, she remained active in her local church and touched many with her warmth.  She was also an avid gardener, implementing a major landscape re-design at her home.  She made many friends with her friendly, outgoing personality, and earned the admiration and friendship of her doctors and nurses because of her faith and positive outlook.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her older brother Wayne Linn Bunce.  Survivors include her children in California – a son Douglas and a daughter Karen Bullard and her husband Larry; a brother, William Milo Bunce and his wife Irene of Erie; a sister, Betty Galbo and her husband Philip of Meadville and related nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 20th from 12 – 2 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Aaron Kerr, Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.  An informal reception will be provided afterward.
