Clair F. Schweitzer, age 99, of Meadville, and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community passed away on Wednesday evening May 27, 2026.

He was born April 22, 1927, in Meadville, a son of Charles and Ethel DeMaison Schweitzer. Clair married the former Shirley Baker on May 30, 1953, and she preceded him in death November 24, 2020.

Clair was a 1945 graduate of Meadville High School. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army from 1950 until 1952. He returned to college and was a 1955 graduate of Alliance College with an Associate’s degree in engineering and tool and die. He was the recipient of an honorary law degree in the Western Pennsylvania federal court system. Clair worked at GTI Corporation in Saegertown and Sheakleyville as a tool and die maker and retired in 1992 as a supervisor of the tool room.

He enjoyed woodworking and wood carving, traveling, spending winters in Florida, taking cruises, hunting, and fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Schweitzer of Pittsburgh and Kenneth Schweitzer (Callie) of Huntsville, AL; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Hunter (Hope), Quinn Hunter, Ellen Hunter (Craig Hoag), Daniel Hunter, Lawrence Hunter (Kaitlyn), Vivian Hunter, and Brooks Schweitzer; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Kate, and Tyler; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Hunter; his son-in-law, Tom Hunter; an infant grandson, Gus Hunter; and four sisters, Nancy Hope, Margaret Lilly, Joanne Walls and Elizabeth Richardson.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 11:20 AM at St. Hippolyte Cemetery, 26012 N. Frenchtown Rd. Guys Mills, Pa with Father Kyle Seyler officiating.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 505 Poplar St., Suite 310, Meadville, PA or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, INC., 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
