Cyril H.C. “Cy” Clarke, 98, formerly of Spring Street, Meadville and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since March 1998, died there Sunday, October 21, 2001.
He was born in Grand Rapids, MI September 20, 1903 a son of Cyril Lee and Mary Elizabeth Sharpe Clarke. He was first married to Laura J. Sprangle and he subsequently married Mabel Sherman October 16, 1974 and she preceded him in death April 30, 1992.
He was a 1926 graduate of Dickinson Law School and was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1927. He worked as a claim attorney for the National Surety Co. in Cleveland then for National Union Indemnity in Pittsburgh, then for the I.D. McQuiston Co. in Erie and then in 1955 moved to Meadville where he opened his own business, Cy Clarke Claim Service. He also owned and operated the Loral Court Motel on the Conneaut Lake Road. He retired from the claim business in 1968 and his motel business in 1971.
He was a member of Stone United Methodist Church and Meadville Elks Lodge #219.
He is survived by a stepdaughter, Ann Pickens and her husband John of Windsor, CT, three step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.
Following cremation a graveside committal service will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery where he will be buried next to his first wife, Laura Clarke.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
