Dorothy Meyer Peterson

November 19, 1919 — July 18, 2004

Dorothy Meyer Petersen, 84, formerly of Argyle Ave. and West 12th Street, Erie died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville.

She was born in McKean November 19, 1919, a daughter of the late Fred and Helen Barron Meyer.  She married Arthur A. Petersen May 2, 1942 and he survives.

She was a 1937 graduate of McKean High School and before her marriage she worked at the former Lawrence Hotel in Erie.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, was active with the Erie Co. Republican Women and was a former Judge of Elections.

Survivors, in addition to her husband of 62 years, include: one daughter, Janet P. Waid and her husband Robert of Meadville; one sister Pearl Schell and her husband Merle of Erie; three grandsons, Robert S. Waid of Meadville, Todd A. Waid and his wife Wendi of Meadville and Ryan P. Waid and his wife Kathleen of Harrisonburg, VA; two great grandchildren, Charlie and Ava Waid and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one infant son, Richard G. Petersen; one sister, Evelyn Hanson; and one brother, Bernard Meyer.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Thursday from 10-11 at McCracken Chapel of Cribbs Home at Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. in the Chapel with the Rev. Ellen Rezek, Chaplain, officiating.

The committal service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the family gravesite in Erie Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Steven Marsh, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Erie, officiating.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., N/W PA Chapter, 110 West 10th Street, Suite 212, Erie, PA 16501 or to the Wesbury Foundation, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, PA 16335.
