Dr. Robert G. Symons, Jr.

Dr. Robert Gray Symons, Jr., age 78 of Meadville, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2026.

Robert was born in Wilkes Barre, PA on May 30, 1948, the son of the late Robert Gray, Sr. and Jean Symons. He married his high school sweetheart, Kathy (neé Hosan), on August 15, 1970.

Robert attended Conrad High School in Wilmington, DE, and earned a degree in Biology from Barrington College in Providence, RI, in 1971. He then completed his medical degree from University of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, IA, graduating in 1974. Following a residency in McKeesport, PA, Robert served two years in the United States Army stationed in Fort Polk, LA.

He was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather. For over thirty years, he faithfully served the greater Crawford County area as a physician, including service at Meadville Medical Center, Water Street Urgent Care, and Crawford County VA Clinic as well as other institutions. In his free time, Robert enjoyed model railroading, singing with his wife, summers at the lake, and spending time with his family.

Robert is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathy and five children: Gretchen Beck (Greg), Warren Symons (Barb), Robert Symons III (Brandy), Katie Pentzer (Jesse), and Gwenlyn Coddington (James); as well as six grandchildren: Elizabeth King (Tim), Dayna Symons (Dan), Monica Shannon (Mark), Alyssa Walker, Skylar Symons, and Robert Gray Symons, IV; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Krasowitz.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, INC., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville PA.
