Evelyn J. Hunter, 92, formerly of Lakewood, OH, and a resident of the David Mead Residence Inn, Meadville, PA, died there, Saturday, April 29, 2000.
She was born May 13, 1907 at Guys Mills, PA, a daughter of Datus and Ida Hillard Hunter. She was a graduate of the Guys Mills Public Schools, and was valedictorian of the class of 1925. She attended Actual Business College of Akron, OH.
She had been employed by Firestone Tire Co., of Akron for 12 years and then entered the US Marine Corps. serving during World War II as a Staff Sergeant, and becoming certified as an airplane mechanic.
She was then employed as an examiner of the Veterans Administration of Cleveland, OH from where she retired in 1969.
She had been a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church of Lakewood, OH and the American Legion Post #738. She also had been an avid bowler and world traveler.
Survivors include a sister, Violet (Vi) Murray of Saegertown; a brother, Rodney Hunter (Faleda) of Guys Mills; five nieces, Wanda Sutton, Ijenna Getty, Sandra Atkin, Bonnie Leamer and Stephanie Snook; and one nephew, Roy Hunter.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Guyla Morris, Grace Hunter and Genevieve Hunter and one brother, Karl Hunter.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
