Conneaut Lake

Evelyn Golomb Leap, 90, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family in the early hours of August 30, 2026 at her son Todd’s home in Fredericksburg, VA. Having her family with her was one of her greatest joys and she was surrounded by them in her last days.

Evelyn was born in Pittsburgh, PA on October 12, 1935.

She was the oldest of four sisters. She met the love of her life, Victor Leap, while at the California University of Pennsylvania studying to become a school teacher.

She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education. Evelyn and Victor were married on October 2, 1954 and settled in West Newton, PA.

They had six children, Vicki, Pam, Marcy, Todd, Lisa and Kristin. Evelyn taught in public schools for fourteen years before they moved their family to Conneaut Lake in 1971. After moving, Evelyn chose to focus on being a full-time mother and supporting her husband’s endeavors. They quickly became valued and respected members of the community. As a teacher, Evelyn valued education and she supported each of her children as they all went on to earn higher education degrees.

In their retirement, she and Vic enjoyed traveling the world and visiting family and friends. For the last ten years, she resided with her son Todd, son-in-law Mark and sister-in-law Christy in Lynchburg then Fredericksburg, Virginia. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and steadfast Catholic.

She is survived by her three sisters, Nancy Belcastro, Jackie Fisher (Jon) and Audrey Mokus; her six children, Vicki Leap of Conneaut Lake, PA, Pam Leap (Kevin) of Boynton Beach, FL, Marcy Bartges (Chuck) of Bradenton, FL, Todd Leap (Mark) of Fredericksburg, VA, Lisa Shope (Eric) of Ellicott City, MD, and Kristin Jackson (Chris) of Wilmington, NC; sister-in-law Christy Little of Fredericksburg, VA; her eleven grandchildren Dan Palmer (Becca), Adam Palmer, Ashley Berdan (Nick), Hannah Bartges (Andrea), Tessa Moyer (Dakota), Maggie Kalmbach (Sam), Emma Gannon (Dylan), Olivia Shope, Grace Shope, Tyson Jackson and Amelia Leap-Little; and four great-grandchildren, Bruce, Hazel, Theo and Lily. She was preceded in death by her husband Victor Leap, her parents, John and Veronica Golomb of Washington, PA, her son-in-law Al Davis and her brothers-in-law Bill Belcastro and John Mokus.

The family would like to thank and to recognize the excellent care that Betty, Ruth and Charity provided to Evelyn.
