Frances I. Gaylord

Frances I. Gaylord, 91, 31 N. Park Ave. Meadville, and formerly of Dade Co. Fl., died Sat. May 15, 2004, at Wesbury United Methodist Community after a period of declining health.

She was born in Franklin, Oct. 26, 1912, a daughter of Edward Ray & Laura Sheldon Inman, Sr. She first married Joseph I. Davis June 17 1937, and preceded her in death Nov. 5, 1982.  She subsequently married Herbert Gaylord, May 10, 1986, and he died Nov. 21, 2002.

She retired in 1974 from Crawford Central School district after 24 years of teaching.  She was a 1930 graduate of Franklin High School, and a 1934 graduate of Penn State Univ. with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies.  In 1961 she received her Masters degree in Education from Penn State Univ.

As a resident of Florida she was a member of the Coral Gables United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, the Coral Gables Chapter of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution, the William Brewster Colony, Society of the Mayflower Descendants of Dade Co.  Her qualifying ancestor being, Governor William Bradford of Plymouth Colony.  She was an honorary member of the Alumni Assn. of SUNY, Oswego, the College founded by her grandfather, Edward Austin Sheldon.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Gunn, Meadville, a stepdaughter, Carol Elefante and her husband Thomas, Marietta, GA, 4 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren 5 great-grand grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Zanne Warner, 2 sons in law, Victor “Jack” Gunn, and William James Warner, Jr., a grandson William James Warner, III, 2 brothers, & 2 sisters.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial service in Cribbs Home Chapel of Wesbury United Methodist Community will be announced.

Burial will be in New Richmond Cemetery.
