Harry E. Shimmell

Harry E. Shimmell, 74, of Meadville, died Monday October 2, 1978, at Hamot Medical Center, Erie, where he had been a patient for two weeks.

Born July 9, 1904, in Union Township, he was a son of George W. and Adelaide Smock Shimmell.  He married Methyl Snodgrass December 24, 1927.  Since 1953, he had been self-employed as a ceramic tile setter.  Prior to that he was employed by Meadville Marble, Granite and Tile Co.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 67 years and was a former trustee, deacon and elder of the church. He was a past noble grand and former chaplain of Cochranton IOOF Lodge.  He also was a former scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 244 sponsored by First Presbyterian Church.  He was a 50-year member of the Bricklayers, Masons and Plasterers Union.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Ralph I. Shimmell of Ft. Worth, TX; a brother, Raymond W. Shimmell of Meadville; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, G. Frederick Shimmell.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
