Stoneboro

Harry Scott (Farmer) Philson, Fairview Township, left this world on the evening of July 4, 2025 at Avalon Springs Place, Mercer, PA with family by his side.

He was born July 24, 1935 at the Mercer Cottage Hospital, Mercer, the sixth of nine children, weighing a mere 2 1/2 pounds. He was born a fighter. His parents were Margaret (Kitch) and John Alban Philson, Sr. He attended Godfrey School and Stoneboro High School.

On August 14, 1959, he married Peggy Young Philson in Winchester, Virginia. They celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Scott worked various jobs throughout the years, retiring in 2000 from Trinity Industries, Greenville, working in the paint shop. He was a man of many talents and hobbies throughout his life. His favorite activities include farming, hunting- especially coon hunting, gardening, growing flowers, woodworking, beekeeping, feeding birds and tinkering on antique engines and tractors. His pride and joy was the 1935 Farmall F 12 that he and some of his buddies restored because the tractor was as old as he was! He also very much enjoyed making wine and brandy to give to family and friends.

He was a longtime member of the Mercer County Antique Power Association, National Rifle Association, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Bluebird Society. He was of the Protestant faith. He loved his family dearly and had some “adopted” family that he loved as well.

In addition to his wife Peggy, he is survived by his son James (Kitty) Philson, Fredonia and daughter Kimberly (Thomas) Croskey, Fredonia and sister Nancy Walters, Delano, PA. Also surviving are five grandchildren Jessica (Corey Beers) Philson, Ashley Philson, Justin (Sue Mullen) Philson, Timothy (Zada) Croskey and David (Rachel Barner) Croskey and five great grandchildren, Cameron Philson, Connor Philson, Abigail Beers, Ingrid Croskey and Paul Croskey. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents Margaret and John Philson Sr. Scott was preceded in death by brothers Robert Philson, John A. (Jack) Philson Jr., David Philson, and James Philson and sisters Dolores Linn, Norma Philson and Mary Gustafson.

The family would like to thank the staff members at Avalon Springs Place, Mercer, PA for the love and care that he received during his stay there. There are too many special caregivers to name individually, but you know who you are. He loved you too.
