Isabel Eleanor (Kaufman) Gerber passed from this earth and went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 4, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Isabel “Issie” was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania on February 23, 1931, to the late Reverend Roy D. Kaufman and Vera Elizabeth (Moose) Kaufman.
She married Kenneth Gerber on April 18, 1953. Isabel led a full and productive life raising their six children according to God’s principles. She was a member of Sunnyside Mennonite Church for their sixty nine married years. She served in many capacities during those years: Sunday school teacher, librarian, Vacation Bible School teacher while transporting as many neighborhood as possible in her old international Travel-All each summer, song leader, choir member, historian, and youth group leader. She and Ken attended the Ohio Mennonite Conference meetings as area representatives for the local church. Isabel loved music, attending the Gospel Music Conventions for forty two years. Isabel had a servant’s heart, giving her time and talent in many ways, whether as a PTO member for the Fallowfield and Conneaut Lake school districts, lending an ear to a friend over a cup of tea, or serving up some deliciousness from her Adamsville Road kitchen.
Isabel attended Goshen College in Indiana, working in the bank for one year following college. After marrying Ken, she kept the books for their trucking business for over forty years.
Left to cherish her, in addition to her husband, Ken, include her brother Ralph Kaufman of New Wilmington, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law, Jackie Kaufman, her children: Chester Gerber (Sue) and Ronald Gerber (Wendy) of Hartstown, Pennsylvania; Roxanne Cain (Rob) of Mill Village, Pennsylvania; Darlene Mullet-Stutzman (Rich) and Julie Stutzman (Stacy) of Sarasota, Florida as well as fifteen grandchildren: Neil Gerber (Stacy), Eric Gerber (Lisa), Shavonne Detwiler (Caleb), Melody Mullet, Nicky Figlow (fiancée Kyla), Marissa Stutzman, Teddy Mullet, Tanner Stutzman (Meredith), Wesley Gerber (Grace), Cassidy Figlow, Evan Gerber, Valerie Stutzman, Emmet Gerber, Dawson Stutzman, and Callie Gerber. Issie is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Wayne, her parents, two sisters, Dorothy Miller and husband Dan, Carol McClay and husband Bob, brother, Don Kaufman, and sister-in-law, Jean Kaufman.
Isabel’s sacrificial love of family, hospitality, and after church Sunday dinners will be greatly missed.
