James Earl Phipps Jr., 81, of Polk, PA, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family, on August 14, 2025. James was born on August 6, 1944, to the late Dora and James Earl Phipps Sr.
James was a farmer his entire life. He especially loved cow farming, and helping out his neighbors. He loved his John Deere tractors. He worked for Wayne Phipps Saw Mill and Joy Manufacturing. He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed it through hunting, fishing, and cutting trees. He would do some woodworking as a hobby. He was in a snowmobile club and was into skeet shooting. James loved watching birds. Most of all, James loved his wife Norma and his family. James would pick wildflowers for his wife. His family will cherish the late night pizza parties after work and miss him at their family cookout gatherings. He was the best provider and husband, father, and grandfather to his family.
James is survived by his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Norma (Poole) Phipps; his daughters, Cindy (Arthur) Miller, Gail (Eric) Russell, Melissa Whetzel, and Amanda McNeish; his grandchildren, Andrew, Alexander, Dylin, Jesse, Brittany, Trent, Owen, Lela, and Lucas; his great-grandchildren, Danielle, Skylee, Arora, and Lillian; his sister, Nancy (Leroy) McKinley; and his best friend, Buzzy.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sisters, Ethel and Violet.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 99 Franklin St, Stoneboro, PA, 16153. Per James’ wishes, there will be no public services.
Internment will be at Pleasantview Cemetery.
