Joseph W. “Joe” DeVault, 84, of Carlton, PA, passed away at his home on April 18, 2025. Joe was born on February 7, 1941 in New Castle, PA, to the late Doris and Harry DeVault.
Joe graduated from Franklin High School. Joe served his country in the United States Air Force; he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Joe retired from the USAF as a Master Sergeant. He worked as a Jet Engine Technician for the USAF for 18 years. Joe also worked in maintenance at the Gateway Inn. He enjoyed the outdoors through fishing and gardening, as well as hosting family and friends for holiday picnics. He liked to watch sports, specifically wrestling. Joe was an avid square dancer, and had a great collection of outfits to do so in. Joe loved spoiling kids, as well as those close to him.
Joe is survived by his children, Dawn (Kevin Hulsing) Stewart and Jeffery (Krystal) DeVault; his sister, Shirley Beaussire; his grandchildren, Katie (Kyle) Kirby, David Stewart, Brittany DeVault, Byron DeVault, and Isaac (Autumn Gourley) DeVault; and his great-granddaughters, Jennifer L. Deshner and Lyla A. Kirby; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his son Frank J. DeVault; and his siblings, Doris Smock, Celia Shreffler Kolacek, Mary R. Buckley, Harry L. DeVault, Raymond DeVault, David DeVault, and James DeVault.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 99 Franklin St. Stoneboro, PA, 16153. Friends and family are welcome at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 23, from 4pm-7pm. A funeral service with military honors will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, April 24, at 11am.
