Joyce E. (Butcher) Garris

Joyce E. (Butcher) Garris, age 100, of Meadville, PA, passed away on January 17, 2026, at Redstone Highlands in Greensburg, PA, after several months of declining health.

Joyce was born in Meadville to Sylvia A. (Parker) and Orville L. Butcher on July 3, 1925.

She went to school in Meadville and graduated in 1937. She married Frank T. Garris on July 12, 1943. He predeceased her.

Joyce worked as an Executive Administrative Assistant at Talon Zipper Company for over 30 years While living in Meadville, she was a member of Stone United Methodist Church. As her son grew up, Joyce enjoyed traveling locally to Conneaut Lake and Erie with him and her husband. She and Frank often ventured to Ohio and New Jersey on bus tours, and visited relatives in California and southern states. She enjoyed playing cards with friends, and bingo wherever games were available. She adored her cat Penny, who she adopted from the Crawford County Humane Society in 2012. When she could no longer care for Penny as she wanted to, she found a terrific home for her, and Penny continues to thrive there.

Survivors include a son, Thomas R. Garris and his wife, Dara, of Irwin, PA; two granddaughters, Carrie Conboy and her husband, Mark of Pittsburgh and Rachel Rogers and her husband, Craig of Cary, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Parker and Quinn Conboy and Dylan, Evan, and Ryder Rogers; and nieces and nephews including niece Nancy Butcher.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kathy Jane Garris; two brothers, Kenneth and Ralph S. Butcher, and her dear niece and close friend, June (Butcher) Nichols.

Family and Friends will be received on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the time of service in ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC., 581 CHESTNUT STREET, MEADVILLE. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Nancy Butcher, officiating. Burial will be private at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

The family thanks the medical team at Redstone Highlands in Greensburg and all Redstone staff involved in Joyce’s care for the last year and a half of her long life.
