Julian Lenhart Ross

Dr. Julian Lenhart Ross, of Meadville, professor emeritus of English at Allehgeny College, died Tuesday, January 25, 1972, at Spencer Hospital following a long illness.

He was born in Meadville February 11, 1903, son of Clarence F. Ross, also an Allegheny professor and Etta Lenhart Ross. A graduate of Allegheny, Dr. Julian Ross attained master's and PhD degrees at Harvard University.  As an undergraduate, he was named to Phi Beta Kappa honorary scholastic fraternity and was a member of Phi Delta Theta social fraternity.

Dr. Ross was active in the community, serving for 10 years as chairman of the United Fund's budget committee; he was a treasurer of the local Red Cross chapter and a member of the board of Crawford County Community Action Assn.

He was a member of the Meadville Literary Union and the Round Table.

He and the former Carol E. Moodey, Allegheny graduate, were married in 1929.

Dr. Ross is survived by his widow; two sons, Peter M. of Newark, DE and Stephen M. of West Lafayette, IN and two granddaughters.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
