June Good, 89, of Meadville, entered the arms of our Lord May 24, 2006 after an extended bout with cancer. She was born March 21, 1917 the first of three children to the late George and Hazel Whistler Zeitler. She married Attorney Frank Prather in 1939 and together they raised seven children. They were active in several local groups including the Meadville Duplicate Bridge group. After his death in 1980, she became very involved in church work and for several years was Director of Religious Education for St. Brigid’s Church. In addition, she volunteered extensive service to Hospice and the pastoral care unit of what was then Spencer Hospital. She was a long term member of the Associates of the Sisters of St. Joseph. And she contributed countless hours to the raising of her grandchildren. In 1998, on her 81st birthday, she married Dr. R. Duane Good. Together they passionately enjoyed gardening, boating, cards, and family life. Dr. Good preceded her in death in 2005.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Lt. James Zeitler (U.S.A.A.C., WWII) and Shirley Zeitler Anderson; two sons, Mark Prather, married to Carol Schroeder Prather of Conneaut Lake, and William Prather married to Priscilla Charlesworth Prather Skarada. She is survived by five children: Thomas Prather of Wilmington, NC, Patricia Pineo and husband William of Conneaut Lake, Lee Prather and wife Teri of Ojai, Calif., Mary Sue Prather and husband Victor Ribeiro of Lisbon, Portugal, and Sally Kyvernitis and husband George of King of Prussia, PA; two step-children, Phyllis Hoople and husband James of Meadville, Patricia Rentz and husband James of Orlando, FL; fifteen grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren, with one more due in July. She loves (present tense) each one unconditionally! Local survivors include grandchildren physician Dr. Thomas Pineo of Greenville, dentist Dr. Ross Pineo of Meadville, and Attorney Ross Prather of Meadville.
She believed music was an important part of our lives and encouraged everyone to take up some instrument or to sing. She enjoyed planting and growing flowers. She also was an accomplished quilter and dabbled in painting a bit. In her later years she and Dr. Good were proud to have had a hand in preserving the Meadville Junior High School as an important part of the heritage of Meadville, and to contribute in many other ways to church and community.
She taught all her family to be happy while achieving as much of their potential as they could, to live a life of service, and to be compassionate to all whom they would meet. Her vast accumulated wisdom, advice, and help will be sorely missed. She leaves us many happy memories, and was truly a “Good” person.
