Katheryn D. Orr

Mrs. Katheryn D. Orr, 86, of New Richmond, widow of James O. Orr, died at Peaceful Rest Home, Cochranton, Wednesday, May 26, 1982, after a period of failing health.

She was born at New Richmond, Crawford County, March 15, 1896, a daughter of James M. and Eliza Hamilton Sayre.

Her husband died in 1978.

In her early life, Mrs. Orr taught school in Princeton, NJ and New Richmond.  She and her husband operated the general store in New Richmond for many years and they also operated a dairy farm.

A graduate of Edinboro Normal School, she was a member of New Richmond United Methodist Church, New Richmond Grange and a long-time associate of John Brown Heritage Society.

In 1920, she became the first woman ever to cast a ballot in Richmond Township.

Survivors include four sons, Morrison L. Orr of Grove City, Meredith K Orr of Park Forest, IL, Nyal V. Orr of New Richmond and Roger J. Orr of Uniontown; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in New Richmond Cemetery.
