Kathy Jean Symons

Kathy Jean Symons, age 76, of Meadville, PA, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2026.

Kathy was born in Reading, PA, on December 19, 1949, the daughter of the late Robert and Norma Hosan. She attended Conrad High School in Wilmington, DE and earned a degree in Music Education from Barrington College in Providence, RI in 1971.

She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Gray Symons, Jr., on August 15, 1970.

Kathy was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother. She was a talented musician, teaching music and voice at Allegheny College for over thirty years, as well as many private students. Throughout her career, Kathy participated in many prestigious musical groups, including the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and opera companies in Rhode Island, Iowa, and Pennsylvania. She also led many local choirs including those at First Baptist Church and High Street Community Church, and musical events throughout the state. In her free time, Kathy enjoyed reading, needlework and sewing, baking, and spending time with her family.

Kathy is survived by her five children: Gretchen Beck (Greg), Warren Symons (Barb), Robert Symons III (Brandy), Katie Pentzer (Jesse), and Gwenlyn Coddington (James); as well as six grandchildren: Elizabeth King (Tim), Dayna Symons (Dan), Monica Shannon (Mark), Alyssa Walker, Skylar Symons, and Robert Gray Symons IV; a great-granddaughter, Riley Jean Shannon; her sister, Carol Hines, brother, David Hosan (Terry), and sister, Gail Jordan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her parents.
