Leita R. Hopkins

Leita R. Hopkins, 94, of Meadville, died Wednesday, December 28, 1994, at Wesbury United Methodist Community following a period of declining health.  She was a former resident of Edinboro, however, she lived at Wesbury since September 1979.

She was born December 29, 1899, in Washington Township, Erie County, PA, a daughter of George E. and Mazyie Wetherbee Ryan.  She married J. Harold Hopkins August 29, 1924.  He preceded her in death March 21, 1981.

She was a graduate of Edinboro Normal School.  Following graduation, she was an elementary school teacher in the New Castle and Meadville schools.  Upon moving to Edinboro, she was the owner/operator of the Village Gift Shop of Edinboro.

She was a member of the Edinboro United Methodist Church for over fifty years.  She was a former local president and district president of the Heather Garden Club of Edinboro.  She was a life-member and former president of the Shadbuck Club of Edinboro.  She was also an over 50 year member and past Matron of Edinboro Chapter #359, Order of the Eastern Star and former District Deputy Grand Matron of District 1A, Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a cousin, Mrs. Peter (Ruth) Bricker of Erie and life-long friend of Leita B. Martin of Enon Valley, PA.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Edinboro Cemetery.
