M. Lee Kern, Jr., Sandy Lake, Pa, passed peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, November 10, 2025, at home after a short illness. He was 83.
He was born January 29, 1942, in Sewickley, PA to Milton Lee and Margaret B. “Peg” Kern Sr.
Lee was a 1960 graduate of Lakeview High School and then served in the US Army until 1963 and was very proud Veteran.
In his early years he worked for Wonder Bread and Tip-Top Bread companies as a salesman and retired with over 30 years of service as a machinist for Joy Manufacturing of Franklin. Also, for many years he drove school bus for Gene Carey Busing of Sandy Lake.
He was a long-time member of Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and Deacon and for many years was the custodian and was also active in the church dinner theaters.
Lee loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He served many years as Cub Master for the local Cub Scouts. He was a member of the Sandy Lake Sportsmen’s Club. He enjoyed watching sports and was a loyal follower of the high school sports teams and was also an avid Steeler fan.
Most of all, Lee was a great family man, and loved to spend time with his grandchildren whom he adored.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, the former Bonnie M. Graham. They were married December 21, 1963, and she survives at home. Also surviving are three daughters: Michele (Jerry) Redfoot, Mindy (Mark) Sarver and Marci (Mark) Custer; six beloved grandchildren: Gretchen (Dan) Engstrom, Emily (Michael) Mosley, Brianna (Sean) Moyer, Kyleigh (Brendan) McAnallen, Brandon (Mae) Sarver and Tanner Sarver; seven great-grandchildren whom he lovingly referred to as “The Littles”: Easton and Oaklyn Moyer, Everett and Ellis Engstrom, Ezra and Scarlett Mosley and Theodore McAnallen.
