Madelyn Jean Hughes, Denver, Colorado, formerly, Stoneboro, Pa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, with her family by her side. She was 82.
Born August 18, 1943 in Grove City, Pa she was a daughter of William Earl and Anna Lou Kelly Hughes.
She grew up in Stoneboro and was a 1961 graduate of Lakeview High School and then graduated from Mesa State College with a bachelor’s degree in history.
Madelyn had lived in Colorado since 1978. She enjoyed music, playing cards, visiting family and was a big fan of hockey and NASCAR.
Most of all she was a homemaker and a loving mother to her five children: Veronica, Valerie, Valynda, Tom and Vanessa, and grandmother to six grandchildren and one great-grandson. Also surviving are two sisters: Drusilla Peltonen and Colleen Hughes. She will deeply missed by all, but remembered lovingly in our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Earl Hughes II.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, PA where family and friends are welcome at10:00 AM, on Friday, April 10, 2026, followed by a service in the funeral home with Pastor Karen Fabian, officiating.
Interment: Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Jackson Township.
