Margaret “Peg” Louise Zahniser, 95, of Stoneboro, PA passed away on July 26, 2026 at Avalon Springs Nursing Home in Mercer. She was born in Franklin, PA on December 20, 1930 to parents Earl J. Carson and Jean M. (Sharp) Carson.
Peg was a 1950 graduate of Stoneboro High School. She married her husband, Robert A. Zahniser Sr. on June 2, 1951 in Winchester, VA and went on to be a homemaker and raise their family.
Peg was a member of the Stoneboro Presbyterian Church since 1953 and was part of their Women’s Association. She was also a member of the Stoneboro Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary for many years.
In her younger years Peg loved baking, canning, gardening, and cooking; she was well known for her fried chicken. In her later years Peg enjoyed traveling, was an avid bingo player, enjoyed doing puzzles and getting together with the ladies for cards. Peg volunteered during elections in Lake Township working the polling boards. She also enjoyed helping with the Lakeview Area Meals on Wheels for several years. She was an active participant in Stoneboro Presbyterian’s Donut Day and enjoyed spending time at the McQuiston Senior Center.
Peg is survived by three children, Catherine (Daniel) Deweese, of Greenville, PA, Robert A. (Jeanette) Zahniser Jr., of Sandy Lake, PA, and David W. (Marcia) Zahniser, of South Point, OH; 5 grandchildren, Amanda (John) Anthony, Jason (Stormy) Buckley, Holly (Eston) Gunderson, Andrew Zahniser, and Brad (Lisa) Buckley. She is further survived by 12 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her step-mother, Ruth Carson; three sisters, Bonnie Burkett, Carol Russell, and Nancy Carson; two brothers, James Carson and Ronald Carson; and one step-sister, Grace Matsko.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 99 Franklin St. Stoneboro where visitation will take place on Friday July 31, 2026 from 11am – 1pm with service to follow at 1pm with Ben Zeigler officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
