Mary L. Battin

January 18, 1918 — June 12, 2004

Mary L. Battin, 86, of 14180 Baldwin Street Ext., Meadville, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Meadville Medical Center.

She was born in Minister, Forest County, PA January 18, 1918, a daughter of the late Walter and Anna Irwin Hulings.  She married Wayne A. Battin October 16, 1941.

She was a 1936 graduate of Titusville High School.  She worked for 35 years at the J.C. Penney Company store in Meadville as a sales clerk, performing alterations, and retiring in 1984 after serving many years as office manager.  She enjoyed traveling, especially aboard O.D. Anderson Tours, knitting, crocheting, and especially loved her family.

She was a member of over 50 years of the First Baptist Church, Meadville and its KJU class.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Brian Battin and his wife Judie of Greenville; a grandson, Douglas Battin and his wife Lynn of Cincinnati; a great-granddaughter, Marissa Battin; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Dora Prather, Twila Miller, and Myrtle Poly and 3 brothers, Orville, Norville, and Harold Hulings.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 353 Chestnut St., Meadville.  The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Gregory Streed officiating.

Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville.

The family suggests memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 353 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335.
