Stoneboro

Mary Louise Hutcheson, 97, of Punta Gorda, Florida, formerly of Stoneboro, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025.

Born on November 25, 1927, in Stoneboro, PA, Mary Louise lived a long, generous, and purpose-filled life defined by service, community, family, and an extraordinary gift for numbers.

She graduated from Stoneboro High School in 1945, proudly finishing as valedictorian of her class. Shortly after graduation, she began working at Westinghouse Electric Corporation in the accounting department, where her monthly salary was $93 a month - a detail she remembered fondly, along with the price of gas at that time. Her brilliant memory, especially with numbers, stayed with her throughout her life.

On August 10, 1955, Mary Louise married the love of her life, Norman “Hutch” Hutcheson, whom she had known since high school. After marrying, she devoted herself not only to their home and dairy farm, but also to an impressive array of community responsibilities. In addition to keeping the farm’s records, she served as tax collector and wage tax receiver for Lake Township and acted as treasurer for multiple organizations including the Stoneboro United Methodist Church, Stoneboro Women’s Club, Stoneboro High School Alumni Association, Stoneboro Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and The Great Stoneboro Fair.

Mary Louise also served faithfully for 47 years as Producer Secretary and Secretary–Treasurer for the Farmers Union Milk Producers Association (FUMPA), where her husband was general manager for 15 years until his passing in 1988. She retired from FUMPA in 2019, at the remarkable age of 92.

Mary Louise found her greatest joy in knitting dish cloths for family members and friends and supporting the people she loved. She attended her children’s softball games and horse shows and her grandchildren’s baseball, hockey, and soccer games, dance recitals, and band competitions.

In 2021, Mary Louise was honored with the Jane Alexander Award, a Pennsylvania recognition given annually to an individual, family, or organization whose work significantly contributes to preserving and enhancing agriculture and rural life. For her many years of dedication to The Great Stoneboro Fair she was chosen to be the Grand Marshall of the cavalcade.

Mary Louise’s life was centered around family. She is survived by her children, Dale (Susan) Hutcheson of Edinboro, PA, and Beth (Jeffrey) Hovis of Punta Gorda, FL; her grandchildren Christy (Moses) Ashaba of Philadelphia, PA, Craig Hutcheson of Denver, CO, Darin (Courtney) Hovis of Estero, FL, and Brianna (Tyler) Boardway of Fort Myers, FL; her great-grandchildren Rachel and Ruthie Ashaba, Hendrix and Poppy Hovis, and Palmer Boardway; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, who lovingly referred to her as “Aunt Weezie”. She also leaves behind her beloved granddog, Maiya.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hutch, their son Gary Hutcheson, and her parents Robert and Vanessa Allen, as well as her sister Elsie Jean Hefferman.

Mary Louise lived an extraordinary life marked by hard work, integrity, generosity, and devotion. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and quiet strength that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, PA 16153. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donations may be made in Mary Louise’s name to Unity of Faith Church, 32 Lake Street, Stoneboro, PA 16153.
