Mary Alice (Momyer) Mook went home to be with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday morning May 27, 2025, following a lengthy battle with dementia and Parkinson’s. Her family is grateful for the care she received from the kind and loving staff of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community and Gentiva Hospice Care.
Mary Alice, the youngest of six children, was born November 2, 1930, in Smithton, PA at the farmhouse of Lucien and Beulah (Sherbondy) Momyer. She graduated from South Huntington High School in 1948, and then Slippery Rock College in 1952, with degrees in English and Physical Education. She married the love of her life, Vernon Milo Mook, on December 22, 1952, at Hope Memorial Lutheran Church, in Smithton, he passed away on May 6, 2015.
Mary Alice taught elementary physical education in Hermitage, PA, for 22 years (1966-1988). “Mrs. Mook” was loved as a creative, energetic teacher, who encouraged physical fitness in children of all abilities.
Mary Alice and Vernon had been very involved in Methodist Churches both in Greenville and Hermitage, PA. They participated in multiple mission trips, projects, and camps through the United Methodist Church and Youth with a Mission. Mary Alice was also quite involved in Mercer County ARC, the Shenango Conservancy, and the YMCA. She loved to open her home for dinners and picnics, providing a wonderful example of hospitality to her family. Above all else, Mary Alice’s deep faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior defined and touched every area of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brothers and sisters, and their spouses: Donald (Eileen) Momyer; Robert (Eleanor) Momyer; David (Dorothea) Momyer; Orpha (Russell) Miller; and Janet (Millard) Grush. She was also preceded in death by Vernon’s brother and sister and their spouses: Reed (Laura) Mook and Marilyn (Walter) Connor.
She is survived by three children; Karen (William) Sukolsky, Robin Mook, and Wesley (Linda) Mook; six grandchildren; Jennifer (Chuck) Mook Mims, Sarah (Rob) Noll, Cara (Geoff) Rach, Sam Mook, Rachel (Bob) McMahon, Caitlyn (Denman) Rooke; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Alice leaves a legacy of faith, love, kindness, and generosity to her family and all who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held at Barco Chapel in Grace Health Center, Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, 31 Park Ave., Meadville, PA on Tuesday July 1, 2025, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary Alice’s name to Heifer International, 1 World Ave. Little Rock AR 72202, to a local hospice, or Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, 31 Park Ave. Meadville, PA 16335. Arrangements have been entrusted to ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, INC. 581 CHESTNUT ST. MEADVILLE.
