Mary Shilling Schlachter, 87, of Meadville, died Sunday, June 1, 1997 at Meadville Medical Center following a period of declining health.
She was born January 25, 1910 in Union Township, Crawford Co., a daughter of the late John and Josephine Cropp Styer. She married Clarence H. Shilling April 23, 1929. He died December 19, 1958. She subsequently married William Schlachter June 20, 1964. He died April 8, 1991.
Mrs. Schlachter was a graduate of Rung School, Union Township. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the 21 Plus Club, the senior citizens group at Trinity Lutheran Church and Meadville Community Center and Friends of RSVP. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Edith) Shuffstall of Conneaut Lake, Mrs. Dale (Lois) Peterson of Meadville and Mrs. Milo (Margaret) Gevin of Cochranton; two sons, Duane C. Shilling of Meadville and John A. Shilling of Conneaut Lake; thirteen grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Emma Styer, Anna Stark, Louise Lockridge and Ruth Chambers and two brothers, Henry and Arthur Styer.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Huber Cemetery, Union Township.
