Michael James Hanford

Michael James Hanford passed from this life on September 29, 2026 in Spartanburg South Carolina from a brief illness.

He was born March 11, 1973 in Greenville, PA to John L. and Penelope (Penny) Hanford. 

He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1991. Following graduation, he earned a degree in biochemical engineering from Rutgers University and went on to obtain his doctorate at the University of Iowa.

 After graduation, he traveled to Thailand where he taught English as a second language and chemistry at the university level. While there he learned to speak, read, and write the language. He returned to the States and settled in South Carolina.

One thing about Michael is that anything he pursued, he mastered it.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, an uncle, and two aunts among other relatives.

He is survived by his parents and a brother, Douglas, of Baltimore, MD.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home in Stoneboro, PA. There will be no visitation and burial will be private.
