Norma Jean Fischer

Norma J. Fischer, 103, of Sandy Lake, PA passed away on September 12, 2026 at Quality Life Services in Grove City surrounded by her family. She was born in Belle Vernon, PA on September 25, 1922 to parents Norman J. Stevenson and Elizabeth M. McCutcheon Stevenson. She was adopted at age nine by George S. Kern and Corabelle Kern who raised her in Coraopolis, PA.

Norma married her husband of over 45 years, Arthur O. Fischer Sr. on May 29, 1941 and he precedes her in death.

Norma worked for Dravo Shipbuilding during WWII, Grove City National Bank, Polk Center as an attendant, and Magnetics (now Spang Industries) as a coil winder. She also was a Justice of the Peace for six years in Jackson township and twenty years in Sandy Lake township and worked as a notary for ten years.

Norma is survived by a son, Arthur O. Fischer Jr. and his wife Betty J., of Mercer, PA; four grandchildren, Dawn Sokol and her husband Dewayne, of Freedom, PA, William A. Fischer and his wife Lonna, of Stoneboro, PA, Cory Myers and her husband Rob, of Fredonia, PA, and Shawn McClearn, of Harrisburg, PA; six great grandchildren, Sydney Sokol Snyder, Sierra Sokol, Raygen Fischer Zillig, Reise Fischer, Asher Myers, and Willow Myers; a nephew Ralph Kern and his wife Karen; a special niece, Nan Varley Gilbert; and a special nephew, Rob Varley.

She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur in 1987; a sister Lois Stevenson, a daughter, Norma J. Fischer; an adopted daughter, Jody Fibus Fischer; her parents; her adoptive parents; two step-brothers, Kenneth Kern and Milton Kern; a son-in-law, Thomas McClearn; nephews, Kenneth Kern, George Kern, Lee Kern, and John Kern; and special nephews, David Varley and Doug Varley.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Rose and Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin St. Stoneboro. There will be no visitation at this time and burial will be private. A celebration of life will be held on October 3rd at 10:30am for family and friends at Unity of Faith Church, 32 Lake St. Stoneboro.
