Norman R. Swartzlander, age 94, of Conneaut Lake, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026, in Soldiers and Sailors Nursing Home, Erie.

He was born in Ottawa, IL on July 15, 1931, the son of Arthur and Emma (Gasper) Swartzlander. The family moved to Conneaut Lake in 1934.

On September 25, 1952, Norman married the former Lou Ann Downing; she passed away January 1, 2023. Norman served in the United States Army where he served during the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal and Bronze Star.

He was a hard worker all his life. He first worked in his youth at Conneaut Lake Park Construction, then later with Allegheny Asphalt Co., Ohio Co., Moss Bros., and Lumber Co., for 24 years in building homes. Norman also worked in the cabinet shop at Gildea Construction until his retirement.

Norman loved being around horses and worked for Jim Beatty at the riding stables in Conneaut Lake. He volunteered at the Crawford County Fair and 4-H when his daughters showed horses. He was an avid fisherman. Norman liked hanging around and stirring up the bees at Lake View Ford in Conneaut Lake. He was a life member and volunteer of Conneaut Lake Park and the Conneaut Lake Volunteer Fire Stations. Norman loved being around family, friends and his dog Susie Q.

He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Loreno (Tony Abati) of Conneaut Lake and Carol Singleterry of Sarasota, FL, a granddaughter, Linsey Loreno of Greenville; a niece, Rhonda Downing, and her daughter Chelsea and son Colter of Conneaut Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers-in-law: Richard Downing Jr., Raymond (Buck) Downing and Elmer Milosh; and sister-in-law Hazel (Boots) Milosh.

Family and friends will be received on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 4:00-6:00 PM in ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY INC., 12422 CONNEAUT LAKE RD., CONNEAUT LAKE, PA.  A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 6:00 PM in the funeral home with Rev. Loren Little officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM where Meadville VFW Post #2006 will render military honors.
