Olga Chechak, 82, of Monnie Ave., Conneaut Lake died Friday, September 8, 2006 surrounded by her family at her daughter’s home in Guys Mills.
She was born in Charleroi, PA, January 28, 1924 a daughter of John and Helen Kolcun Gernot. She married Michael G. Chechak October 16, 1948 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church in Ford City. He preceded her in death August 9, 2001.
She was a 1941 graduate of Ford City High School and early in her marriage she worked at PPG Works #6 in Ford City. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards, the camp, seeing her friends at lunch at Silver Shores Restaurant and playing with her Grand-dogs. She also enjoyed classic rock music and requesting songs on WMVL 101.7 FM.
Survivors, include: two sons, Michael J. Chechak and his wife Patricia and Andrew J. Chechak and his wife Catherine “Dolly” both of Meadville; a daughter, Dolores A. Atha and her husband Roy of Guys Mills; three grandchildren, Tracey Atha and her companion Jamie Atkins, Anthony Atha and his wife April and Richard Atha and his wife Jennifer; four great grandchildren, one great great grandson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Andrew Gernot, Alec Gernot and an infant brother and four sisters, Helen Kornosky, Margaret Hanchin, Mary Oresick and Anna Hrabovsky.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Scripture Prayer service at 6:45 p.m. at the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Americas Church, 155 S. Ninth Street, Conneaut Lake with Rev. Stephen Anderson as Celebrant.
Burial will be in Our Lady Queen of the Americas Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 448 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
