Olive O. Gates

Olive O. Gates, 103, formerly of Emlenton, PA and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville, since April 1980, died there, Monday, November 13, 2000, following a period of declining health.

She was born July 4, 1897 in Richland Township, Venango Co., PA a daughter of Maurice B. and Lillian Beals Shannon.  She married Lawrence E. Gates, June 22, 1920 and he preceded her in death September 16, 1977.

She was a graduate of Emlenton High School and a member and past Worthy Matron of the Emlenton Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.  She was a member of the Emlenton United Methodist Church and co-owner of the Just-Rite Co. in Emlenton.

Survivors include a daughter, Clara Louise Rhodes of Beaver Falls; a sister, Edith Beals of Meadville; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchidren.  She was preceded in death by two sons, Harry E. Gates and Maurice C. Gates.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Emlenton Cemetery.
