Omah B. Hartman, 92, of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, and a former resident of Meadville, died Sunday, October 29, 2000, at Meadville Medical Center, after a period of declining health.
He was born in Milroy, PA, September 28, 1908 a son of Frank and Emma Linhurst Hartman. He married Imogene Hofmann, September 16, 1935, who preceded him in death March 27, 1986.
He was a 1923 gradaute of Yeagerstown High School where he participated in numerous sports, and was considered an outstanding athlete. He was hired as part of the construction crew that was building the American Viscose Co. plant at Meadville and was then hired by that company retiring as a foreman after 45 years of service.
He had been an active member of Stone United Methodist Church for over 50 years, its Men's Bible Class, and various committees. He had been active in the Boy Scout program for many years, enjoyed bowling, and had served as a Republican Committeeman. He had been a volunteer at Wesbury United Methodist Community, and had been caregiver to many people over the years.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Bowser and her husband David of Meadville, and Bonnie Pryber and her husband Jerry of Erie; three grandchildren, Jeffrey and Mark Bowser, and Jennifer McTiernan; two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Howard Hartman and two sisters, Frances Fink and Grace Mateer.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
