Osborne C. Carpenter, 89, of 642 William St., Meadville, died Thursday, March 28, 2002 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.
He was born July 21, 1912 in Meadville, a son of the late Clyde and Mollie Osborn Carpenter. He married Dorothy M. Ash September 19, 1935 and she preceded him in death July 19, 2001.
He was a graduate of Meadville High School. He worked at Talon for 42 years as a tool and die maker, retiring in 1977. He previously worked for the former Erie Railroad. He was a 50-year member of Crawford Masonic Lodge #234 and a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He coached little league and Babe Ruth league baseball and helped construct several area baseball fields. A talented musician, he played in several area bands including G.O. Smith and his Happy Hour Boys. He was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed hunting with friends.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Rickard and her husband Don of Unadilla, NY; a son, Carl Carpenter and his wife Karen Johnson of Meadville; 4 grandchildren, Dan Rickard, Kevin Rickard, Joseph Carpenter, and David Carpenter; and 1 great-granddaughter.
A private family funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home with Rev. Drew Elling, Assistant Pastor of First Presbyterian Church officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg.
