Phyllis G. Byers, 81, of Hunters Ridge Blvd., Meadville died Friday, June 15, 2007 at the Meadville Medical Center.
She was born in New Vernon (Mercer Co.), PA August 4, 1925 a daughter of Harold and Alice Reed Gallagher. She had been married to Dr. John L. Anderson and she subsequently married William F. Byers, Jr. February 9, 1956 and he preceded her in death September 26, 1989.
She was a 1942 graduate of Cochranton High School. She worked for many years in the employment office of Sharon Steel Corp. and then worked for a short time at Associated Family Services in Meadville. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and its Hope Circle. And, she enjoyed playing cards, gardening, traveling and her cat “Tom.”
Survivors, include: a daughter, Marilyn Watson and her husband Denny of Conneaut Lake; a step-son, William Byers and his wife Sallie of Zelienople; two grandchildren, Robert S. Watson of Meadville and Suzanne Watson Smith and her husband Christopher of Middletown, MD; two step-grandchildren, Jennifer Byers of Zelienople and Amy Byers Jarrett and her husband Barry of Collinsville, VA; three great grandchildren, Tucker Watson, Erin Smith and Clayton Smith and a special friend, Selene McGowen of Meadville.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville and Monday from 10-11 a.m. in the Chapel at First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty Street, Meadville. The funeral service will follow Monday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel with the Rev. Brian K. Jensen, Pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Cochranton Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty Street, Meadville or the Crawford County Humane Society, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
