Robert Thomas Boyd

July 29, 1933 — December 26, 2025

He was born to Francis S. and Margaret A. (Lowers) Boyd on July 29, 1933 in Franklin, Pa. and passed on December 26, 2025 at 92 years of age. Bob lived on Boyd Road, New Vernon Twp, all his life except for times of active duty in the service. He graduated from Sandy Lake High School in 1952 and joined the Navy. He served 38 years in the armed forces in active and reserves including the Army. He saw active duty in the Korean conflict, the Berlin Crisis in 1961-62, and Desert Shield/Storm in 1990-91 where he earned high honors as Motor Sergeant and retired as a Sergeant First Class.

Gifted with an exceptional talent for repairing anything mechanical, Bob’s skills extended far beyond his service years. Throughout his career, he steadily advanced from working as a mechanic to becoming a partner in a new car dealership in Franklin. His expertise and dedication led to his recruitment as a full-time employee at the Army Reserve Center in Farrell in 1982, where he continued to put his mechanical abilities and leadership into practice.

Over the years Bob had a passion for the American auto – restoring, driving and collecting many models from 1917 to the 1980’s, winning car show awards for quality work- and was a recognized expert on Model T and Model A Fords.

He was always ready to help family, friends and neighbors with their vehicles and machinery. He and Wilda also enjoyed traveling with friends and family on road trips over much of the country, often in the cars he restored.

He is survived by his amazing wife of 71 years, Wilda M. (Stallsmith) Boyd, married on June 20,1954. Together they enjoyed hosting many gatherings at their home. The marriage was blessed with three children: Scott (Donna) Boyd, Lynn (Richard) Eckley, Debra (Duane) Christy (deceased 2022). Seven Grandchildren: Ben (Amy) Eckley, James (Justina) Eckley, Keith (Kim) Christy, Doug (Amanda) Christy, Sherri (Chris) Baer, Rachel (Michael) Freenock, Becca (Ben) Barker. Fourteen Great Grandchildren.

He is also survived by his brother Bill (Peggy) Boyd of Bowdon, GA.

A devoted Christian, he was involved in his churches over the years, and encouraged his children in their faith. He was an example of patience and quiet servant leadership, never raising his voice in anger.

A memorial service will be held at the Oak Grove Church, 10 Oak Grove Rd, Mercer on January 6. 10 am visitation time will be followed by the service at 11am.

Interment will be held later at the Mt. Hope Methodist Church cemetery, New Vernon Twp.
