Ronald O. (Barney) Barnard, 84, formerly of Meadville and resident of Canadohta Lake died Sunday, December 10, 2017.
He was born in Meadville December 4, 1933 a son of Oliver C. and Pauline Murphy Barnard. He married Carol Smith Witscher July 10, 1999 and she survives.
He was a 1951 graduate of Meadville High School and was a veteran of the Korean War serving the US Air Force from 1951-1955. He worked on the Erie-Lackawanna and Conrail railroads for over 30 years, retiring as an engineer. He was a member of Crawford Masonic Lodge #234, Scottish Rite Bodies and member and Past Monarch of Kismet Grotto. He was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge #219 and a member of Huidekoper VFW Post #2006, Cambridge Springs American Legion Post #381 and the Presque Isle Beagle Club. He also enjoyed hunting.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, Carol, of 18 years, include: two daughters, Jan Ingram and her husband Kirk of Clearwater, FL and Jo Hurdis and her husband Jason of Washington, IL; two step-sons, Dan Witscher and his wife Katie of Williamsport and Keith Witscher and his wife Lori of Saegertown; a step-daughter, Holly Markel and her husband Jon of Montoursville, PA; three grandchildren, Jessica, Jana and Jennifer Hurdis; seven step-grandchildren, Stewart Hagey, Grace Ann, Ashley and Andrew Witscher, Michael Zika and Breanna and Colton Markel; a great granddaughter, Amelia Witscher; a step-brother, Robert (Terry) Martin and his wife Maryann of Meadville; his good hunting friends, Glen Thompson, Dale Collins and Glenn Collins and several extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-sister, Mary (Jacqueline) Golnik.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 1-4 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, INC., 581 CHESTNUT STREET, MEADVILLE. The funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. starting with the Elks Service, followed by the Masonic Service, then the funeral service, concluding with military honors provided by Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.
The family suggests memorials be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505, Masonic Lodge #234, 21635 Star Route, Meadville, PA 16335 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
