W. Ray Milliron, manager of the local G. C. Murphy Co. store, died early Sunday morning at his home in Meadville, after an illness of several weeks.
He was born June 29, 1909, at Kittanning, a son of Ross and Sara Belle Allen Milliron.
His early life was spent in Kittanning where he first started work for the Murphy Co. while still a student at Kittanning High School.
From 1934 to 1942, he was manager of the Murphy store at Grove City, where he married the former Orpha Doverspike.
He was transferred to the local store in 1942 and had been associated with numerous business and civic activities. He was widely known as an amateur radio operator and was active in civil defense work. In 1953, he was elected president of the City Council of Parent-Teacher Assn. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of numerous social and professional organizations and groups.
Besides his widow, he is survived by three children, Irene, William and Rebecca, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Ross Milliron of Kittanning; a brother, S. W. Milliron of Buffalo and a sister, Mrs. E. L. Bush of Vandergrift.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Kittanning Cemetery.
