Walter J. Eccles

Walter J. Eccles, 84, of Meadville, a former city water employee, died Wednesday, March 16, 1994, at Meadville Medical Center following a period of failing health.

He was born in Meadville, August 31, 1909, a son of Charles L. and Margaret (Tillie) Styer Eccles.  He married Anna Hazelhurst July 19, 1937.  She survives.

He retired in 1977 from the Meadville Water Department as a pump station engineer after 20 years of service.  He previously worked for Talon Inc. for 20 years and several years for the former Erie Railraod.  He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ where he was a former choir member and leader of the Sunday School orchestra for many years.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Doris Spencer of Katy, TX; two sons, Daryl Eccles of Saegertown and David Eccles of Meadville; two sisters, Alice Eccles and Gertrude Hanka, both of Meadville; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; a grandson; a sister, Rhea Anderhalt and a brother, Charles Eccles.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Huber Cemetery, Union Township.
