William Edward Stapel

William Edward Stapel, 89, of Meadville, died Monday, July 27, 1998 at Meadville Medical Center following a period of declining health.
He was born September 1, 1908 in Avalon, a son of the late Charles C. and Pricilla Lewis Stapel. He married Jean Louise Reimann September 13, 1933. She preceded him in death September 26, 1985.
Mr. Stapel was a 1930 graduate of Allegheny College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He was a Lieutenant in the US Navy, having served in World War II. He retired in 1972 as a claims adjuster and first vice president of Allegheny Mutual Casualty following 39 years of service.
Survivors include a nephew, Arthur C. Stapel of Floyd, VA; two grandnephews and one grandniece.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles L. Stapel and a nephew, Charles L. Stapel, Jr.
Services were held with the Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in North Side Cemetery, Butler.
